What a difference a week makes !
Last time out against Rainworth which was only a few weeks ago we folded and lost 7-2, I think we must have used our "B" side that day !
After following an old lady at 15mph all the way to Rainworth we expected to get there late, we did but the KO was late as well, due to an over-run by a younger age group, we did a good warm up, bit of a rest and then we opened up........
Tigers (Win/Codd) were on form, with a stand in keeper - big thanks to Jake as Sean was still injured - so we wondered what we were going to get today. The first half was like last season - never say die - Tigers battled for every ball, every header, and Ryan put in super header display today - well done. Tigers opened up the scoring after Alex dropped an inch perfect ball for Will Meakin to run onto to beat the defender and slot the keeper - great football. The second came from a Chris Harling lob dropping straight onto Matt Evans head for the second. The 3rd was a goal mouth struggle, an aggressive Matt Evans eventually slammed the ball into the net after some excellent work by Olli and Brady putting Rainworth under pressure. Rainworth had numerous chances but Kane Rhule was outstanding at the back intercepting everything. Ryan, Tom and Harry were on form keeping the lines clear, but a moment of madness allowed Rainworth to slip past and shoot, but a perfect save from Jake pushed the ball around the post and kept Rainworth out. 3-0 to Tigers at the break and we were cruising.
The second half was different, a couple of subs and a shape change played into Rainworth hands, wave after wave of attacks followed and again excellent work from Tigers back 4 and Jake in goal ensured we just about held our own. Rainworth got 1 back after breaking through the middle and leaving our defence stranded up the pitch to beat Jake in goal, 3-1. On 70 minutes Rainworth were awarded a penalty for handball which did look a very harsh decision and Rainworth put the ball away 3-2. Tigers changed shape for the last 10 minutes dropping Chris along side Alex and George dropped into Chris's position leaving Will up front alone. Cameron picked up a loose pass and knocked the ball upto will who beat 2 players and took on the keeper to make it a respectable 4-2.
This was a good game, we were physical and boy did we need this win to bolster up our confidence. Kane got Man-of-the-Match but so could 2 or 3 others, in fact the whole team could have got it. From Jake in goal to Will up front, everybody played there part well done lads - keep it going ! |
