Blackwell started well, passing and finding space wide. We struggled once again filling spaces in midfield and stringing passes together. Loads of energy being wasted chasing long high balls and getting nowhere near the third ball let alone the second ball. Blackwell scored with a ball over the top, with their striker lobbing Sean for 1-0 Kane came on for an injured George but two more goals followed with our defence being run ragged by pace and good movement. 3-0 at half time.
Reminded at halftime that we are supposed to be playing to our strength, with the ball on the deck, hitting our forwards feet and supporting each other. We needed to play for pride. Brought Cameron on for John and Ollie for Mat. From the first few kicks of the second half we looked a different team and a lot more up for it. We started to win ball, distribute it better, and at last, play as we can. Will and Jake looked dangerous and good interpassing between Cameron, Chris, Alex and Ollie, feeding them up front. From one of these moves we got Will in and he stuck it away. We started to over run Blackwell just by getting our shape right and passing and moving. There were several chances that we just couldn’t finish or their keeper saved. Our defence looked solid, our midfield shape looked good, won everything and started to measure passes to our pacey forwards and wide midfield. John came back on in his left midfield role. Alex won the ball in midfield, John moved wide into space to receive the ball, turned inside beating his marker and lobbed the goalkeeper from 35 yards. 3-2. We kept going forward for the equaliser but couldn’t quite get it. An excellent second half performance.
Can we please put 80 minutes of that together for the next game. Blackwell are a fair side and very sporting. The referee was fair also, and I can’t remember a wrong decision. Man of the match Alex, for getting the team motivated second half and winning everything that he could get to. The whole team should be proud of the way they played second half. Those who came off at half time were victims of how we played as a team and not how they played as individuals.
More training on Tuesday with the old problem of passing, moving and communicating to be worked on. We need all players there to get this right. Some key players missed last week. Good excuses if you can’t make it. |
