Wolves Tamed By Tigers
By Ashley Medley.

A stern test was expected against the new, and thus far, unbeaten team of the League as West Bridgford arrived on the back of a 100% three match run at Phoenix Park. Tigers handed a debut to Daniel Stocks, as they looked to consolidate top stop.

And it was the home team that settled the quickest, as early doors, Stocksy's pace and direct running was very much in evidence. He and Tyler made good combinations, as if they had played together for ages, Danny Lee was everywhere, JJ covered every blade of grass, Jake Matt showed why he has the potential to be one of the most dominant centre halfs in the division, Jack Rob was gaining in confidence, as was Dom in goal. Olly's worries of his injury very quickly evaporated as he grew in stature as he forayed forward and Kano's midfield positioning allowed him a roaming role which he flourished in. Dom Sev started to believe in himself, and Gibbo had more of the ball, which he needs to give him added encouragement to make the runs which we all know he is so capable of.

So as the Wolves looked to go forward, every player worked for their peers to stifle and starve any potential spaces they tried to exploit. And Tigers took the lead as they had threatened to half way through the first period. Stocksy's trickery and speed on the left following a neat ball through by Danny led to a low cross on a plate for Tyler, who scored at the second attempt from 4 yards. This stunned the opposition, but their previous neat passing soon gave way to long balls over the top which were capably dealt with by Jake and Jack. With Captain JJ geeing and urging his troops forward, it was no surprise that the lead was doubled. Again, Stocksy got the better of his left back, and though his shot pinged against the right post, the ball came out to the edge of the area whereupon Kano showed great precision and poise to place a low left-footer into the bottom corner.

So a deserved two goal cushion was established at the interval, with Tigers well aware that it was important to keep it tight for the opening ten of the second half. You could see the Wolves' really wanting an early goal to get their foot through the door and after a free kick on the edge of the area was conceded, their eight foot captain hit an unstoppable fizzer into the net to reduce the arrears. And depsite a couple of minor wobbles, the two goal difference was re-established after a free kick for hand ball was given 5 yards into the Wolves' half. JJ stepped up and floated a "shot" which deceived defenders, keeper and strikers, and ended up in the top corner. Tigers sensed further openings as the Wolves' heads visibly dropped.

The 4th came quite soon after, as Tyler's instinctive control and immaculate chip beat the keeper all ends up. Arran, Nipper, Haz and Jake Mawer had all been introduced by then and they, topo, made valued contributions to the Tigers' cause. Stocksy got the goal his workrate so thoroughly deserved as he made no mistake in the area to power a shot home. There were numerous other chances which, if I had some paper, I could have noted down, but this "reporter" was busy doing other things(!). I must say, however, that the performance, by the whole team, was absolutely outstanding. And your behaviour and respect was exemplorary, too. Fantastic boys, let's keep going and further cement your position as top of the leage. Well played!!!
